Artist, Index, David Culshaw produces paintings and drawings in acrylics and mixed media. They are mainly responses to elements within the landscape and man's interaction with the environment. His main theme is the effects of time and the way we experience an environment in different ways as our knowledge of it deepens. On Cannock Chase, near his home, is the remains of a World War 1 Military camp, which covers a large area. Quite recently when much of the bracken and scrub birch was cleared revealing extensive concrete remains. His work has been concerned with exploring the layers of time and emotion involved in understanding the meanings within this landscape. He began to study the camp through old maps and plans the more he investigated the Great War the more his work began to focus on trying to express the idea of the changing emotions associated with this landscape.
